How is Intrauterine Insemination Performed?

Intrauterine insemination is a painless procedure lasting for a few minutes. The patient who is positioned at lithotomy position and general anesthesia is not required. The cervix is observed through usual gynaecological devices and the uterus is accessed via a special catheter.

The sperm prepared in the laboratory is injected into the uterus. As a result of this procedure which is performed to provide spontaneous fertilization of the sperm and ovum and settle in the uterus, pregnancy rates may be increased up to 15%. The patient may continue daily life after a resting period for 20 minutes. The patient should immediately refer to the doctor in any adverse event.

The patients who try two intrauterine insemination procedures and do not archive a live birth should be re-evaluated and may be referred to intrauterine fertilization treatment, if needed.
