Esophageal Cancer Progresses In Silence
Esophageal cancer, which ranks in the top 10 in terms of incidence among all types of cancer, usually progresses in silence without any symptoms. In advanced stages, the most common complaints in patients are "difficulty in swallowing and weight loss".
Other symptoms include burning and pain in the chest area, vomiting, regurgitation of food, swelling in the neck, loss of appetite, hoarseness, bleeding, coughing and feeling of suffocation.
While reflux disease and especially smoking and alcohol consumption significantly increase the risk of this type of cancer, it is important to consult a specialist for control without delay in cases such as difficulty in swallowing, pain during swallowing and weight loss.
