Endoscopy Unit

Endoscopy is a procedure which allows direct screening of oesophagus, stomach and intestines with advanced optical devices, and the diagnosis of digestive track diseases by conducting a biopsy when necessary.

For digestive tract examinations by using our Endoscopy Unit in the Gastroenterology Department;

  • If  we are performing an endocsopy examination to with the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum; this is called: oesophagogastroduodenoscopy
  • If we are performing this procedure for the large intestine, then this is called: colonoscopy.

In our hospital, endoscopy procedures are performed by a Gastroenterology Specialist.

How to prepare for an endoscopic examination?

It is enough to stop eating 6-8 hours before the examination. Within this period you may drink water or weak tea. If you have a rheumatic heart disease history, 2 separate antibiotics are injected; one of which is injected 2 hours before the procedure and another one 8 hours after the procedure. On the other hand, if you have congenital bleeding disorders or other diseases, it is useful that you notify your physician of them.
